Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
“When you go out to battle against your enemies, and see horses and chariots and people more numerous than you, do not be afraid of them; for the Lord your God is with you, who brought you up from the land of Egypt.” – Deut 20:1

Everyone fears something. Living a fearless life is a misnomer: a myth. God doesn’t tell us to not be afraid; He tells us, do not be afraid “of them”: our enemies. We don’t have to fear our enemies! And the way we confront fear of our enemies is by choosing to fear God instead.

To “be afraid” is the Hebrew yare (Strong’s H3372). This is the same word used when Scripture tells us to, “…fear the Lord, and depart from evil” (Prov 3:7). To fear God means to serve Him with reverential awe. To fear God means to trust His word more than you trust what you see! To fear God means to believe He will triumph more than you believe your enemy can win. To fear God means to give Him your life: no matter the cost.

What enemies are you facing? Do not be afraid of them. When you fear God, there is nothing else to fear!

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” – Prov 9:10

Prayer:

Father, from this day forward I will fear You and You alone. Thank You that I don’t have to be scared of my enemies anymore! No matter what comes my way, I know that You are my God, and I am Your child, in Jesus’ name!
