Commentary from Pastor Mike White:

“So Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up for a burnt offering instead of his son. And Abraham called the name of the place, The-Lord-Will-Provide…” (Gen 22:13-14). One of God’s Hebrew names in the Old Testament is Jehovah Jireh, which means “God Will Provide.” Provision isn’t just something God does; it’s Who He Is. Abraham built intimate trust in God through faith. Whenever God promised to provide, the provision was there.

There are two things I’d like to focus on in this passage. First, Abraham spoke out God’s promise before it came to pass. In Gen 22:8, he tells Isaac, “God will provide for Himself the lamb for a burnt offering.” Abraham didn’t just have faith to think about God’s promises internally; he had enough faith to speak them out loud. When we proclaim God’s promises out loud, all of heaven allocates the necessary resources, and all of hell yields to God’s will and makes way for that provision.

Second, God came through in the final hour, after Abraham, “…took the knife to slay his son” (v. 10). It wasn’t until Abraham stretched out his hand to kill Isaac that God delivered on His promise to provide a substitute. Abraham didn’t just wait on God; He acted in complete faith that God would deliver.

Remember God’s promises over your life. Speak them out – out loud – so that heaven knows you’re preparing, and hell knows you’re serious. Have faith that God will provide, even if it means waiting until the finish line. The Lord Will Provide!

Prayer:

Father, thank You that I can always trust in Your promises! I declare that I trust in You with everything that I am, and all that I have. You are Jehovah Jireh – the God Who Provides!
