Commentary from Pastor Mike White:

…but the land which you cross over to possess is a land of hills and valleys, which drinks water from the rain of heaven, a land for which the Lord your God cares; the eyes of the Lord your God are always on it, from the beginning of the year to the very end of the year. – Deut 11:11-12

We are used to a life in which we have to look after our own possessions – our “land.” We are used to a life in which, even if God gives us a calling, we have to do everything in our own power to make it happen. The world wants us to live that way. But God doesn’t want us to be used to that life. Why? Because there is a better way.

God, through Jesus Christ, has offered to take us into a place where everything we do, and everything we need, is blessed by heaven. God offers a divine exchange: we give Him our problems and our possessions, and He rains down resources from Heaven. God offers to keep His eyes “continually” on everything we do. We get to take our hands off and give possession completely over to Him.

But obedience is required for His resources to wash over our lives. Verses 13 and 14 are tremendously important:

…And it shall be that if you earnestly obey My commandments which I command you today, to love the Lord your God and serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul, then I will give you the rain for your land in its season… – Deut 11:13-14

Obedience activates the rain. The rain doesn’t come unless we love God with all our heart. He can walk us into the Promised Land (salvation), but whether or not it rains (intimate provision) is up to us. My prayer today is that we would leave not a single one of His instructions undone. Let it rain.

Prayer:

Father, I give my life to You. I know that when I give everything I have completely over to You, You will look after everything. Thank You for Your intimate provision, in Jesus’ mighty name!
