Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? – Matt 6:27
Worrying does absolutely no good! Jesus was laying groundwork for His disciples that worry is a waste of time. A cubit was a measurement of length: the distance between the elbow and the tip of the middle finger, or approximately 18 inches. Worrying will not make you taller!
The cubit is also a measure of time. Worrying will not make you live longer! In fact, scientists have found that high levels of worry and anxiety can actually shorten your life span.[1] Worrying not only does no good; it can really hurt you!
It is a waste of your time, and your God-given potential, to worry about things beyond your control. Give your anxiety up to God, and receive His perfect peace in exchange. As you seek God with all your heart, everything you need will be given into your hand.
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. – Matt 6:33
Prayer:
Father, thank You that I never have to worry. You make all things available to me when I seek You with my whole heart! I love You with everything I’ve got, in Jesus’ name!
