Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Then they journeyed from Mount Hor by the Way of the Red Sea, to go around the land of Edom; and the soul of the people became very discouraged on the way. – Num 21:4
God’s people were tired! Their souls became discouraged on the way. They had been out of Egypt for years but still hadn’t reached the Promised Land! Whenever answers to prayer – and fulfillment of promises – take longer than expected, our souls can become discouraged.
Do you want to know how to keep your soul encouraged so you can wait in faith? Speak to your soul! Command your soul to be uplifted. We see this all throughout the Psalms:
“Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; for I shall yet praise Him, the help of my countenance and my God.” – Ps 43:5
The Psalmist spoke to his soul because it works! Do not allow your soul to become discouraged. Tell your soul to be uplifted in Jesus’ name!
Prayer:
Father, remind me that I am loved. Remind me that I have no need to be discouraged. Encourage me to follow You with my whole heart, in Jesus’ name!
