Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Then Jesus said to them, “All of you will be made to stumble because of Me this night, for it is written: ‘I will strike the Shepherd, And the sheep will be scattered.’” – Mk 14:27
Every single one of the disciples stumbled. Peter denied Jesus after proudly insisting he would die before abandoning Him (v 31). Peter, James, and John all fell asleep three times after Jesus asked them to stay awake and pray (vv 37-41)! Judas betrayed Jesus and had Him arrested (vv 18, 43); and when the guards arrived to take Him away, the disciples, “…all forsook Him and fled” (v 50).
All the disciples stumbled; yet Jesus still appeared to them when He was raised from the dead (Mk 16:14). All the disciples stumbled; yet Jesus still worked with them, “confirming the word through…accompanying signs” (Mk 16:20). All the disciples abandoned Jesus; but Jesus never abandoned them.
You will stumble. You will make mistakes. You will come up short. But the Cross covers it all. Grace covers every sin, and mercy covers every failure. Today is the day to stop beating yourself up. You’re not perfect, because you’re not Jesus. And that’s okay. No matter what you’ve done, He will never leave you or forsake you.
…and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. – 1 Jn 1:7
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your grace! Thank You there is no sin so great that it can overshadow the finished work of the Cross. I am forgiven, and I am set free, in Jesus’ name!
