Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Send men to spy out the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the children of Israel; from each tribe of their fathers you shall send a man, every one a leader among them.” – Num 13:1-2

God didn’t bring everyone into Canaan right away. First He sent spies to spy it out. He allowed them to get a peek of the Promised Land. He gave them a glimpse of what was coming, so they knew how to plan accordingly. He showed them what the enemy was up to (v 18), in an effort to make them bold and courageous!

Do you feel God calling you into new territory? Ask Him to let you spy it out. As you pray, ask Him: “Lord, show me what my life is going to look like once I receive the promise.” He will get you there, and He will get you in; but there is nothing wrong with asking for a glimpse so you can prepare yourself for what is to come!

However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. – Jn 16:13

Father, I want to spy out the land. You’ve promised me some amazing things! Show me what the promises are going to look like so I can plan for life with them. Thank You for the amazing things You are going to do, in Jesus’ name!
