Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

According to the pattern which the Lord had shown Moses, so he made [it]… – Num 8:4

God showed Moses His design so that Moses would perform it. The books of Exodus detail God’s plans for how His people are to live in mind-numbing detail. But is it all included for nothing? Certainly not! God cares about the details! He will show you His plans in intricate detail so you can execute them with utmost clarity!

Execution is important. What good does it do to hear from God if you don’t do what He says? If it’s been a while since you’ve heard from God, ask yourself: What was the last thing He told me to do? Go back and do that. Once you’re finished, He will give you further instruction.

When God speaks – through His word, and in times of prayer – it is amazing. His voice is proof positive that He exists, and that He cares for you! But we must use that sense of awe and wonder for good. We must push past that fascination that the God of the universe actually speaks to us, and take one step further – to actually do what He says!

You might say, “That’s great, but God’s never spoken to me.” Oh yes He has. The 66 books of the Bible are direct revelation for Heaven! Start there. Look for Jesus in every word, sentence and phrase. As you go out and perform His will – as inspired and strengthened by God’s Holy Spirit – He will give you further instruction!

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only… – Jas 1:22

Father, make me faithful to perform Your will. I want to be a doer of the word, not just a hearer! I know You are real; I ask that You would speak to me, in Jesus’ name!
