Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Then they shall put it with all its utensils in a covering of badger skins, and put it on a carrying beam. Over the golden altar they shall spread a blue cloth, and cover it with a covering of badger skins; and they shall insert its poles. – Num. 4:10-11

Israel’s original tabernacle – the physical structure that housed God’s presence – was not permanent. It was made to be constructed and deconstructed: repeatedly erected and then torn down. Every article of the tabernacle was designed to be moved. Nothing was permanently fixed! And what does that mean for us?

We are supposed to be mobile: following God where He goes, instead of asking Him to come where we are. We are meant to live in such a way that the only permanent fixture is His presence! Our lives should revolve around His presence. When He moves, we move! And when He settles, we build our lives around what His Holy Spirit is doing in a particular place.

Don’t just dig in your heels and ask God to bless your plan. Take up your camp and demonstrate a willingness to follow where He leads!

Father, I pray Your presence would be the one permanent, fixed object in my life. I want to build my life around Your presence. I will follow You wherever You go, in Jesus’ name!
