Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
“Behold, I send an Angel before you to keep you in the way and to bring you into the place which I have prepared.” – Ex 23:20

God will fight for you. He will send His Angel to “keep you in the way:” to protect you from evil, and keep you focused on Jesus. He will send His Messenger to show you the way into the Promised Land. If you listen to His voice, He will, “…be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries” (v 22)!

Some interpret this to mean that God would send an angel before His people: a celestial being to guide them into the Promised Land. Others take this as a Messianic prophecy: God’s promise that He would send His Son – the Angel – to bring His people (you!!) into Heaven. Either way, the message is clear: God will bring us where He wants us. We don’t have to figure out how to get there on our own; we simply need to let Him take us!

What has God promised you? Aren’t you glad you don’t have to get there yourself? Aren’t you happy you don’t have to do everything on your own? God will send His Angel to do the work. Listen to Him, and He will do the rest.

Prayer:

Father, thank You that I don’t have to do all the work myself. Thank You for sending Your Son Jesus to die for my sin, and to make a way into Your promises! Help me to listen to Him and obey, in Jesus’ name.
