Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Thus the Lord God showed me: Behold, the Lord God called for conflict by fire, and it consumed the great deep and devoured the territory. Then I said: “O Lord God, cease, I pray! Oh, that Jacob may stand, for he is small!” So the Lord relented concerning this. “This also shall not be,” said the Lord God. – Amos 7:4-6

Here is the pattern:

  1. God showed Amos something bad that was going to happen.
  2. Amos cried out!
  3. God “relented.”

Here is what we know for sure: God responds to our cries! Those without vision (i.e. revelation) perish (Prov 29:18). God will show you the fate He wants you to avoid, so you can cry out and activate the destiny He wants you to have!

It was not that God changed His mind; it was that Amos’s cry activated the plan God wanted to carry out all along. God wants your participation! He will show you evil things, so your prayers can cancel the evil things and activate the good things! Amos’s prayer averted destruction and opened the door to God’s goodness through repentance.

God does not change His mind. He purposed you for good all along! But your prayers can change your future, and align your life with His design!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for revelation. Thank You for showing me bad things that can happen unless I pray; and for encouraging me to cancel the bad and activate the good! I am so grateful – and You are so good! – in Jesus’ name.
