Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
A Song of Ascents. Unto You I lift up my eyes, O You who dwell in the heavens. – Ps. 123:1

What you look at is where you will end up. Have you ever looked to the left or right out your car window while you’re driving when something catches your attention? You can only glance for a moment; because if you look too long you will drift in that direction. If you take your eyes off your final destination, you will end up on the side of a road in a ditch!

And so it is with God. If you look at the things of the world, you will end up entangled by them. You will end up off course and in need of restoration! But if you “lift up your eyes” to God – if you keep your graze transfixed on Heaven! – that is where you will drift. You will be like Enoch, who, “…walked with God, and he was not, for God took him” (Gen. 5:24). Without any special effort on your part, and simply as a consequence of your focus on Jesus, you will find yourself closer to Him than ever before.

Jesus, I am lifting up my eyes to You, O You who dwell in the heavens! As I look to You, help me to be more like You. Help me to be consumed by You! Thank You that I get to see You face to face, and be with You for all eternity, in Jesus’ name.
