Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

So he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless. Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ – Matt 22:12-13

What a terrifying encounter. Jesus is comparing the kingdom of God to a wedding feast. Many were invited, but few were willing to lay down their busy lives and come. One man who did choose to come made it inside, but was wearing the wrong clothes. “How did you come in without a wedding garment?” Jesus asked. Because he was not wearing the proper attire, the man was forever banished from heaven. Are you at risk? Are you wearing the right clothes?

You don’t have to fear being denied access to heaven if you are “clothed with righteousness” (Ps 132:9)! Scripture says that when we give our lives to Jesus, we are “hidden with Christ in God” (Col 3:3). When God looks at you, He doesn’t judge your outfit if you’re with Jesus! He doesn’t see the faults and failures you wear on your sleeve. He is blinded by the perfect, spotless life His Son Jesus Christ chose to live – and lay down – on your behalf.

Don’t get caught unaware. You don’t have to hope you make it to Heaven; you can know where you are headed! “Put on the Lord Jesus Christ” (Rom 13:14), and be made perfect!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your Son Jesus Christ. Thank You that, because I know Jesus, I no longer have to fear being left out of Heaven! I have nothing to fear because I am hidden in Him, in Jesus’ name!
