Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
“Thus says the Lord God: ‘I will also let the house of Israel inquire of Me to do this for them: I will increase their men like a flock.’” – Ezek. 36:37

God invited Israel to pray for increase. He “let [them] inquire of [Him] to do this for them.” The implication is significant: if God hasn’t invited you to pray for something, don’t pray it! But as soon as He invites you to pray for something specific by the leading and guidance of His Holy Spirit, your prayer is as good as answered. His ears will be open to listen, and His arm will be strengthened to answer your prayer.

Don’t just start praying without listening to the Holy Spirit first. Pray about what you should pray before you even start praying! Ask the Lord what He wants you to pray. Say, “Father, what are You letting me inquire of You?” He will tell you what to pray, and then you get to pray it out. And when you pray according to His word, instead of praying your own desires, you will have the answer to your prayer.

“Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.” – 1 Jn. 5:14-15

Prayer:

Father, thank You for speaking to me and telling me what to pray! Help me never to pray my own desires. I want to fulfill Your desires! I only want to pray what You ask me to! Lord, give me the desires of my heart, in Jesus’ name.
