Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, “Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?” – Matt. 3:7

When God gives salvation to people who don’t deserve it, how will you react?

Here was John the Baptist, appalled that the Pharisees and Sadducees – religious leaders coming out of the very sects that would condemn and crucify Jesus – were coming to salvation. He didn’t think they deserved salvation; yet God gave it to them anyway!

Do you remember Jonah? God sent him to Nineveh, but he didn’t want to go! Why? Because he knew that even though he didn’t think the people of Nineveh deserved salvation, God would give it to them anyway (see Jonah 4:2).

No one deserves salvation (see Eph. 2:8-9)! Yet God still saw fit to send Jesus to die for our sin. He gave His only Son to give us eternal life! It’s not up to us to pick and choose who “deserves” to be saved. We simply open our mouths and share the Gospel, and Jesus will draw all people to Himself.

Therefore He has mercy on whom He wills, and whom He wills He hardens. – Rom 9:18

Prayer:

Father, thank You for growing Your Kingdom in and through me. I am so honored to be used by you for Kingdom expansion. I refuse to judge who belongs; but I insist on telling all who will hear!
