Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver. – Prov 25:11

As New Testament Christians, we are called to be prophetic people. We are filled with God’s Holy Spirit. That means we should earnestly desire spiritual gifts, “…especially that [we] may prophesy” (1 Cor 14:1). We should seek the Lord for prophetic words – for ourselves, and for others – at all times!

But we can’t stop with content. The way in which a word is spoken is just as important as the what. Successful communication, “…consists of 7 percent content, 38 percent tone of voice, and 55 percent nonverbal communication.”[1] The way in which you communicate a word is just as important as the word itself!

Does the way in which you deliver prophetic words demonstrate the love of God? Prophetic words exhort and uplift. They don’t point out the dirt in someone’s life; instead, they dig through the dirt to find the gold!  So, how’s your delivery?

Prayer:

Father, make me prophetically compassionate! Thank You for the words You speak to. Help me to deliver them well: full of love, and right on time, in Jesus name!
