Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

But if you will not heed Me to hallow the Sabbath day, such as not carrying a burden when entering the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day, then I will kindle a fire in its gates, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem, and it shall not be quenched. – Jer 17:27

The fate of Jerusalem and Judah hinged on the ability of God’s people to stop and rest! God gave us the Sabbath for our own benefit. We no longer have to keep it because we live under the Law; now we get to keep it because we live under grace! Under the Old Covenant, the Sabbath was one day per week; but according to our New Covenant of grace, the Sabbath is a lifestyle. We get to live every day from a place and position of rest!

Jesus died on the Cross so you can rest, knowing you are forgiven by God. Because He finished His work, you get to rest. Thank God we no longer have to work for His affection. Instead, we get to enjoy the finished work of the Cross from a permanent position of righteousness in Jesus Christ!

The more you rest, the more God can establish you. Keep it simple. Trust Him with all your heart. Rest in the finished work of the Cross, and He will build you up.

Prayer:

Father, help me to rest in the finished work of the Cross! Jesus did it all, so I could receive all things through Him. Amen!
