…as you know how we exhorted, and comforted, and charged every one of you, as a father does his own children… – 1 Thess 2:11
The apostles loved the members of the early church “…as a father does his own children.” They knew the Father’s love, and they showed His love to others. They exhorted: they taught the word of God with gentleness and integrity, knowing that the example they set was important to the people around them. They comforted: they encouraged, calmed and consoled their brothers and sisters in Christ. Finally, they charged: they held the people around them accountable to move forward – never backward – in their pursuit of God.
Church should feel like family. Has God given you people in your life whom you can exhort, encourage, and charge? Has He surrounded you with people who will do the same for you? If not, don’t panic! Pray. He will surround you with exhorters, comforters, and chargers. All you have to do is ask.
Prayer:
Father, surround me with people who will pull me closer to the Cross, and never push me away! Thank You for my church family. Push me out of my comfort zone to invite other people to church to experience what real family feels like!
