Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
And you became followers of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit… – 1 Thess 1:6
The early church was highly afflicted. They suffered greatly, and were persecuted for their faith in Jesus Christ. But because they had the word, they had joy.
The word of God brings joy, even in the midst of suffering. The word of God brings life, even in the depths of despair! Faith in Jesus Christ doesn’t guarantee you won’t go through difficult moments; but it does guarantee that the word of God will bring joy into every situation, no matter the odds!
Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the bones. – Prov 16:24
Prayer:
Father, thank You for the power in Your word. Thank You that Your word brings joy in the midst of every trial! I know that as long as I have Your word with me, I have nothing to fear, in Jesus’ name.
