Commentary from Pastor Mike White:

In mercy the throne will be established; and One will sit on it in truth, in the tabernacle of David, judging and seeking justice and hastening righteousness.” – Is 16:5

God sent Jesus Christ to die for our sins because He is merciful. Mercy is, “…compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within one’s power to punish or harm.”[1] It is certainly within God’s power to punish us. It is also within His right! We all deserve an eternity of suffering for our lack of perfection. But God established Jesus Christ in mercy so that we might be saved!

Keeping our eyes fixed on the things of this world hastens judgment. But keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus Christ hastens righteousness! Scripture says that when we trust in the finished work of the Cross, we are hidden in Jesus (Col 3:3). As His disciples, we can boldly approach the throne of grace (Heb 4:16), knowing that God welcomes us into His presence!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your mercy. Thank You for Your grace. Thank You for forgiving me, even when I deserved it the least. Thank You for eternal life!
