Commentary from Pastor Michael White

“Therefore my people have gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge” (Is 5:13). Lack of knowledge leads to captivity. When Isaiah spoke, Israel had fallen into captivity because they lacked knowledge. They were unaware of how to feed on God’s faithfulness, and were given up to their enemies as a result. When we lack knowledge of God’s goodness and power, we are subject to captivity. When we’re caught unaware of our position as righteous sons and daughters of God, the enemy will gladly swoop in and convince us that we are not who God says we are. We are held captive by doubt and uncertainty when we don’t know – through prayer and communion – God’s plans for our lives. God calls you sinless and spotless through His Son Jesus Christ. He calls you His beloved. Enjoy the freedom that comes with that designation.

Prayer:

Father, help me never to be held captive by a defeatist attitude and negative thinking. I know Your destiny for me is great! I know You have amazing thoughts and plans for me. I will not be detained. I will learn everything Your Word says about who I am.
