Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: fear God and keep His commandments, for this is man’s all” (Eccl 12:13). Solomon was incredibly wealthy. He was also the wisest king who had ever lived. He had probably seen the entire known world, and had experienced more than most of us could ever hope to experience in our lifetime. Yet he counted everything he had labored for as “vanity.” Childhood and youth; money and fortune; love and satisfaction; all were vanity. His life’s conclusion is delightfully simple: the only thing that matters is our relationship with God. If that is the final note in the life of a man who had it all, how much more will it be the final note in ours?
Prayer:
Father, help me to put value on the only thing that really matters in this life: my relationship with You! I want to keep Your commandment and place my faith in Your Son Jesus Christ.
