Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
And if anyone thinks that he knows anything, he knows nothing yet as he ought to know. – 1 Cor 8:2
If you think you know anything, you know nothing. True knowledge means admitting you don’t know much of anything at all. True wisdom means recognizing that you need God for everything: every thought, every decision and every breath!
Satan’s goal is to make you believe you can do life on your own; but the Holy Spirit’s goal is to invite you to lean on Him for everything. Knowledge puffs up (1 Cor 8:10), but reliance on God’s Holy Spirit keeps you humble. The Holy Spirit is your Teacher! You need Him to help you better understand the things of God. As you lean on God, He will strengthen you: not so you graduate from leaning on Him, but so you graduate to leading others to lean on Him too!
Prayer:
Father, keep me humble! Help me to remember that, apart from You, I know nothing. I trust Your Holy Spirit to tell me everything I need to know, when I need to know it!
