Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
I say this to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you, not even one, who will be able to judge between his brethren? But brother goes to law against brother, and that before unbelievers! – 1 Cor 6:5-6
The Apostle Paul had a gripe with the church at Corinth. Members of the church who were in dispute were taking each other to civil court, instead of resolving their disagreements in private! If the members of the church had done their job of mediating the disputes, people wouldn’t have had to bring their issues to the government.
The church has failed when people go to secular sources instead of coming to us. We should be the first to put our hands up when disputes need to be mediated. We should be the first to offer food when hunger needs to be mitigated. We should be the first to offer assistance when finances need to be cultivated; the first to offer encouraging words when people need to be motivated!
Church: It’s time to step up. God filled us with power to solve every ill that ails society around us. Are we using what He’s given us, and doing what we can?
Prayer:
Father, help us to step up. Our neighborhoods, our cities, and our nation have some serious needs. We know You put us – the church – here to show people what the hand of God looks like. We want to step up, in Jesus’ name!
