Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Moreover I issue a decree as to what you shall do for the elders of these Jews, for the building of this house of God: Let the cost be paid at the king’s expense from taxes on the region beyond the River; this is to be given immediately to these men, so that they are not hindered. – Ezra 6:8

The enemies of God’s people wanted to shut God’s work down. They appealed to King Darius to issue a decree that the work on the temple should stop. But their plan backfired!

Darius issued a decree that the work of God would not cease. Not only did he refuse to shut down the building process, but he also actively promoted God’s work from that point forward. He became Israel’s biggest fan! He commanded that the building should not cease; and then he offered to pay for the construction.

It does not matter if the enemy intends to shut down God’s work in your life. God will make sure you persevere! The enemy’s plans will backfire, and God will be glorified.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your will and Your work. Help me to complete the construction of Your work – to build everything You have asked me to build – with absolute faithfulness and trust in You. No one can shut down the work You have commanded, in Jesus’ name!
