Commentary from Pastor Mike White:

The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart greatly rejoices, and with my song I will praise Him. – Ps 28:7

Trust precedes help. David understood that in order for God to help him in his situation, he had to trust God. Every situation, no matter how scary on the surface, is a new opportunity to trust God. Trust is a decision. Has He ever failed you before?

Pay attention to the tenses here. When David trusted God (past tense), God helped Him (present tense). God’s present help allowed David to worship in the future. True worship is not possible if trust and help are not present in your past. So, even if you trust God here and now, have you trusted Him in the past? Have your past actions demonstrated the trust you have for Him? He can’t impact your present until your past is filled with trust. Past trust brings present help, and present help brings future praise! Make the decision to trust God today; He will help you tomorrow so you can worship Him the next day!

Don’t be afraid to start small. Just as a little faith builds more faith, a little trust builds more trust! So, do you need help with whatever you’re going through? Trust God, and leave the rest up to Him!

Prayer:

Father, I am making the decision to trust You unconditionally. You are always faithful to Your word, and You always deliver on Your promises. I know that when I trust You, You are released to be my strength and shield!
