Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Nevertheless the people still sacrificed on the high places, but only to the Lord their God. – 2 Chron 33:17
The right sacrifice in the wrong place is still imperfect. The people of Judah did right in sacrificing to God; but they did wrong in sacrificing on the “high places” (altars designed for pagan worship).
Are your sacrifices in the right place? Are you giving God what He’s asking for? Are you glossing over His request for you to spend more time in prayer by upping your financial offering instead? Are you ignoring His proddings for sexual purity and spending a little extra time in Bible study instead? Where God wants you to sacrifice is just as important as what. Ask God where He wants you to give more of yourself to Him!
Prayer:
Father, help me to honestly evaluate the sacrifices I am making for You. If there’s any area of my life I haven’t given over fully to You, speak to me and let me know! I’ll change whatever You want me to change, and give whatever You want me to give, in Jesus’ name.
