Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. – 2 Chron 20:3
When Jehoshaphat got bad news, he refused to keep it to himself. First, he talked to God. Then, he told his people.
God can’t give you peace and guidance unless you come to Him. He wants to speak to you about things to come (Jn 16:13). He wants to tell you what’s coming in advance (Amos 3:7)! Whenever something goes wrong – or right! – He wants to be the first Person you run to tell.
Your friends and loved ones can’t pray for you unless you tell them what’s going on! Don’t keep your distress to yourself. Tell people you love and trust, and ask them to face the battle with you! If two believers agree in prayer, “…it will be done for them by [God] in heaven” (Matt 18:19)!
Jehoshaphat refused to fight his battles alone. He told God, and he told other people; and as a result, he didn’t have to fight at all:
You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord… – 2 Chron 20:17
Prayer:
Father, thank You for always listening and guiding me through everything that comes my way. Thank You for surrounding me with compassionate people who will pray for my prayer need as if it were their own. Give me the courage to tell other people what’s going on in my life, because I know it makes all the difference in the world!
