Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
And when Asa heard these words and the prophecy of … the prophet, he took courage… – 2 Chron 15:8
Asa was a new king. He was coming off a string of military victories; but he wasn’t sure how long his success would last. So God sent Him a reminder through Azariah the prophet: “Be strong and do not let your hands be weak, for your work shall be rewarded” (2 Chron 15:7).
Asa received prophetic encouragement at a critical moment. He got just what he needed, in his moment of need. When you need encouragement, God sends His word!
This has two implications:
1) As a receiver: When you need encouragement, ask God to send it. Are you having a bad week? Ask Him to send an encouraging word through one of His messengers.
2) As a giver: When you get a word from God, deliver it. If Azariah hadn’t shared what God had given him to say, Asa might have missed out on the encouragement he needed. He might have faltered and failed, where God wanted him to succeed. Deliver the word God has given you! The courage of men and women in your life depends on it.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for powerful prophecy! Thank You for sending your word. When I need encouragement, I know You will send it. When someone else needs it, send it through me; and make me faithful to deliver it, in Jesus’ name!
