Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
That is, those who are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God; but the children of the promise are counted as the seed. – Rom 9:8
Your pedigree doesn’t matter to God. Paul explained to the church at Rome that what makes you a Christian isn’t the culture or the household you grew up in; it is what you believe. We are righteous by faith; not by flesh.
God loves underdogs. He used Moses – an orphan who has abandoned by his parents – to break His people free from captivity (Exodus 2). He used David – a shepherd boy who had no formal combat training – to defeat Goliath (1 Sam 17). He used a prostitute named Rahab to deliver the city of Jericho to His people (Joshua 2).
Your background is irrelevant to God. It doesn’t matter where you’re from, or where you’ve been: He plans to use you for great things! So don’t waste any time wishing your past had been easier than it was. God will use your past for ministry in the present. He will take what you have been through, and mold it into a beautiful testimony for His glory.
But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty… – 1 Cor 1:27
Prayer:
Father, thank You for redeeming my past and using me for great things. I know You have amazing plans for my life, and I can’t wait to walk them out in partnership with Your Holy Spirit!
