CityLight Pastor Commentary:

The parable of the wheat and the tares in Matthew 13 helps to answer a common question: if God is good, why do wicked people exist? Why does evil exist? The answer lies in the realization that there is an enemy at work. Satan is constantly doing everything he can to sow tares in our lives. Maybe it’s your boss, or a roommate, or someone else; but we all have people in our lives who make things difficult. Yet Jesus says it is not our job to decide who should be uprooted, or who should be judged. God is the Only Righteous Judge. In fact, He will leave the tares planted until the final judgment, because uprooting them now might cause some of His children to stumble. Uprooting them now might result in misidentification: people who appear to be wicked (tares) but have yet to be transformed into the people God wants them to be (wheat) might be gathered up before they have the chance to mature. We must patiently endure the growth process God has us in, knowing that in the end He will gather the righteous into His kingdom!

“Father, give me patient endurance! Life isn’t always easy and can sometimes be just plain hard; but I know you have a plan for me. I know you love me. Help me to embrace the purpose You have for my life.”
