Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him.” – Matt 2:13
God speaks to Joseph through dreams four times in the first two books of the New Testament.[1] God is setting a precedent here: as New Testament Christians, we should expect to hear from God in dreams!
Under the Old Covenant, God only spoke to three categories of people: prophets, priests, and kings. The rest of His people had to rely on trusted representatives to speak to – and hear from – God on their behalf. But under our New Covenant with God through Jesus Christ, every believer should expect to hear from God, especially through dreams!
The New Testament opens with a flurry of dream activity on purpose. Joseph’s dreams set a precedent for how God expects you to hear from Him! Even when you are asleep, God is still speaking. Before you go to bed, pray that God would give you dreams. Pray that He would tell you what’s coming, just as He did with Joseph. Then, go out and do what He says!
Prayer:
Father, thank You for dreams! I bless my sleep in Jesus’ name. I ask that You would give me supernatural dreams!

[1] In Matt 1:20, an angel appeared to Joseph in a dream and told him to trust Mary and take her as his wife. In Matt 2:13, an angel in a dream told Joseph to flee to Egypt with Mary and Jesus. In Matt 2:19, an angel in a dream told Joseph to go back to Israel; and in Matt 2:22, God warned Joseph in a dream to settle in Galilee instead of Judea.
