Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
“Now therefore, thus shall you say to My servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: “I took you from the sheepfold, from following the sheep, to be ruler over My people Israel.” ‘ “ – 1 Chron 17:7
David learned how to lead by following the sheep. The prerequisite for good leadership is learning how to follow. David was an amazing leader! He was the best king Israel and Judah had ever seen. But his leadership capabilities didn’t come overnight. God grew him, little by little, and made him ruler over His people.
If you want to lead, you have to learn to follow. If you try and lead others on your own, you will fail; but if you lead by following God, you cannot help but succeed!
Prayer:
Father, I know good leadership starts when I learn how to follow You. Teach me how to follow You, in Jesus’ name!
