Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Then Agrippa said to Paul, “You are permitted to speak for yourself.” So Paul stretched out his hand and answered for himself… – Acts 26:1
Paul stood before the king. His enemies – the men who wanted to kill him – had stated their case. And now it was Paul’s turn to speak for himself. Notice that King Agrippa didn’t ask Paul who was going to speak on his behalf. He wasn’t looking around the room for Paul’s lawyer, or a friend of Paul’s who was emotionally detached from the situation who could speak objectively on Paul’s behalf. Paul had something to say, and the king invited him to say it!
When you are standing before the King, you get to speak for yourself. When you pray, God hears you! You don’t have to ask someone who is “more anointed” or “more connected” to pray for you. Jesus – the King of kings – has given you an audience, and He knows you have something to say. So say it!
You are permitted to speak for yourself. Nobody else needs to talk to God for you! Go to Him, and pray for yourself.
Prayer:
Father, I pray that You would fill me with the strength and courage to pray for myself. Thank You that, through Jesus, I can come and speak to You face to face! I am so grateful that when I pray, You hear, in Jesus’ name.
