Commentary from Pastor Mike White:

Then Paul answered, “What do you mean by weeping and breaking my heart? For I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.” – Acts 21:13

Many people warned Paul not to travel to Jerusalem. A group of disciples begged Paul to avoid danger by staying away. Agabus told Paul he would be bound and delivered to the Gentiles. Yet Paul did not heed their warnings.

Paul was ready to die for the name of the Lord Jesus. How did he get to that place? How was he so willing to give up his life?

Paul knew that “to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Phil 1:21). Whatever joy we find on this earth is only a shadow of the joy we will have in Heaven, when we see God face to face. When we stay alive, we become more Christ-like; but when we die, we are seated with Him in Heaven! We should not fear death, but rather realize that the joys in eternal life after death will far exceed our wildest dreams!

“There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind.” – C.S. Lewis

Prayer:

Father, thank You that I don’t have to fear death! I know that Jesus conquered the grave. Because of His finished work on the Cross, I don’t have to fear anything!
