Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
And the Lord said to Jehu, “Because you have done well in doing what is right in My sight, and have done to the house of Ahab all that was in My heart, your sons shall sit on the throne of Israel to the fourth generation.” But Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of the Lord God of Israel with all his heart; for he did not depart from the sins of Jeroboam, who had made Israel sin. – 2 Kings 10:30-31
Jehu’s zeal for the Lord started out strong. He did everything God told him to do. He took vengeance on Jezebel and Ahab’s family. He disposed of the priests of Baal. He destroyed the idols from Israel!
But over time, his zeal waned. His passion died out. He had gotten what he wanted from God – God made him king over Israel – so he stopped following God. He was no longer sensitive to God’s leading. He was no longer careful to listen to God’s word!
Your passion for God should increase over time, never decrease. Your zeal for the Lord of hosts should thrive as you move forward, never diminish! Be intentional. The more you get what you want, the more you should rely on God, not less!
Prayer:
Father, I want to rely on You more than ever before. As I move forward into my destiny, help me to never forget about You! It was You who got me here, and you will keep me here, in Jesus’ name.
