Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
So the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “There is still one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may inquire of the Lord; but I hate him, because he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil.” And Jehoshaphat said, “Let not the king say such things!” – 1 Kings 22:8
King Ahab surrounded himself with yes men. He didn’t want to hear the word of the Lord; he just wanted to hear yes! He wanted people who would agree with him, no matter his decision.
But King Jehoshaphat surrounded himself with prophets. He wanted men who didn’t always agree with him to speak into his life. He invited men who genuinely heard from the Lord to comment on his decision-making, and tell him if what he was doing was wise!
Are you surrounding yourself with people who say yes? Or with people who genuinely hear God’s voice? God may not always tell you what you want to hear; but He will absolutely tell you what you need to hear.
Prayer:
Father, surround me with men and women who are going to tell me the truth! I don’t need people around me who say what I want to hear; I need servants who tell me what I need to hear! Surround me with people like that; and make me a person like that for others.
