Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

And God said to him, “Your name is Jacob; your name shall not be called Jacob anymore, but Israel shall be your name.” So He called his name Israel. Also God said to him: “I am God Almighty. Be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall proceed from you, and kings shall come from your body.” – Gen 35:10-11

Jacob was born a man; but God made him a nation. He was already blessed; but God wanted to bless him even more! There is no telling what God can do through you when you trust Him!

There is no limit to the blessings of God. Jacob was already blessed. He had eleven sons (Gen 32:22) and great wealth. But God wasn’t done with him yet. As Jacob came back to Bethel – the place where he first heard God’s voice (Gen 28:12) – God appeared to him again. God told him that the blessings over his life would never stop. In fact, they would increase! He was already a father; but now God wanted to make him a nation! Nations and kings would be born to him.

Jacob could have taken his foot off the gas, sat back, relaxed, and enjoyed what God had already given him. But he didn’t. He kept listening for God’s voice. He continued pressing in. He insisted on stepping out and doing what God asked Him to do. As a result, he became Israel. As we continue to follow God, the promise over our life expands. Don’t let up! Keep pressing in! As we step out in obedience and follow Him, things just keep getting better and better.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your overwhelming kindness towards me! Thank You for Your infinite goodness. Thank You that the more I follow after You, the more blessed I become!
