Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
In the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, Zimri had reigned in Tirzah seven days. And the people were encamped against Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines. – 1 Kings 16:15

When Elah was king over Israel, Zimri was the “commander of half his chariots” (1 Kings 16:9). But Zimri got sick of serving, and decided he wanted to be king. So he “went in and struck [Elah] and killed him” (v 10), and sat on the throne himself. Zimri’s reign would be short-lived, however. He would sit on the throne only seven days!

All the kings of Israel who took the throne by force had one thing in common: their reign was short. When you take matters into your own hands, your seat on the throne won’t last long. Isn’t it better to allow God to thrust you into your destiny, instead of trying to make it happen on your own? If you do it on your terms, it won’t last; but if you do it on His terms, He will keep you there!

Prayer:

Father, I want my legacy to last. Give me the patience to wait for You to make my destiny come to pass, instead of trying to take matters into my own hands! I want to do it Your way, instead of my way, in Jesus’ name.
