Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
And the temple, when it was being built, was built with stone finished at the quarry, so that no hammer or chisel or any iron tool was heard in the temple while it was being built. – 1 Kings 6:7

God had given Solomon a weighty mandate. Solomon would construct the first permanent temple for God’s presence. He would build the house of worship that kings and rulers and all the people of Jerusalem would use for generations to come! Solomon not only made a point of using the highest quality materials available; he also completed the construction “with stone finished at the quarry, so that no hammer or chisel or any iron tool was heard in the temple while it was being built” (1 Kings 6:7). Noise in the temple would interfere with worship! It would be an affront to God. So Solomon went to great lengths – and massive inconvenience – to make sure to complete the structure without noise.

How you build matters. The method of construction is just as important as the finished product! For Solomon, a perfect atmosphere for worship was to be maintained even as building progressed. And you should have the same goal for your life. God has called you to do great things! But are you taking care in how you build? Are you making sure that as you build your family, progress in your career, and accomplish your God-given mandate that you prioritize worship that is free from distraction and unnecessary noise?

God will provide the building material; but how you build is up to you. Build with care, and without noise. And pray that as you build your life, everything you construct will bear eternal fruit and stand the test of time.

Father, help me to build well! Thank You for the building supplies. You have given me provision and abundant preparation every step of the way, and I am grateful. Now please help me to build my life in a way that honors You, in Jesus’ name.
