Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Now in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, there arose a complaint against the Hebrews by the Hellenists, because their widows were neglected in the daily distribution. – Acts 6:1
When the church started growing, people started complaining. This is how the enemy works! When your work for the Kingdom is working, he will send complainers to complain against you. Their complaints may in fact be legitimate; but the enemy’s goal is always the same: to take your eyes off the Cross, and to cause you to lose focus on the Kingdom of God!
Don’t fall for it. When the complainers come, don’t take it as an insult: a sign of disapproval from God! Take it as a compliment: you are so effective at winning the lost that you have attracted the enemy’s attention!
Prayer:
Father, help me to respond to complaints with enthusiasm instead of cynicism. I know there are needs to be met; but I also recognize my chief responsibility is to keep my eyes on You! I want to get lost in Your presence, in Jesus’ name!
