Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” – Acts 2:38
The Holy Spirit is a gift! You don’t have to earn His presence. When you said yes to Jesus, you became dead to sin (Rom 6:11), which made you a perfect candidate to be filled with the Spirit of the living God. You have been resurrected in Christ Jesus! The same way God gave the “promise of the Holy Spirit” to Jesus (v 33), God has now given Him to you.
You don’t have to work to receive a gift. Receiving the Holy Spirit is different from earning Him. Open your hands, lift your eyes towards the heavens, and receive everything God wants you to have, in Jesus’ name!
Prayer:
Father, thank You for the gift of Your Holy Spirit. I never want to live without Him. Thank You for His presence, in Jesus’ name!
