CityLight Pastor Commentary:

“Then the king said, ‘Is there not still someone of the house of Saul, to whom I may show the kindness of God?’” (2 Sam 9:3). When a new king came to power, it was customary for him to kill all the relatives and close associates of the previous king. David, however, was not interested in custom; he was interested in covenant kindness (Hebrew chesed). Covenant kindness is a specific kindness that you give to someone you love: not out of impulse, but out of commitment. Saul had tried to kill David many times. Yet even in spite of that animosity, David searched high and low for any living relative of Saul so he could bless him. God wants to show you that same kindness. No matter what you’ve done, God is good: and He wants to prove it to you!

Father, thank You that You always show me covenant kindness! Your heart and Your desire is to bless me. You are a good God and I know it!
