Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
All the days of the afflicted are evil, but he who is of a merry heart has a continual feast. – Prov. 15:15
You can’t always control your surroundings. Right now, many of us are mandated to stay at home. We’re trapped in quarantine. Most of us are hating it. Many of us have lost friends and loved ones to a virus that cannot be seen and seems incapable of being controlled. But there is one thing you can control.
You can control the condition of your heart. God has given you authority over your own heart. And His promise is that if you cultivate a “merry heart,” your life will be a “continual feast.” You will never be in lack. You will never be short on joy! You will never feel like you’re dragging your feet through life, waiting for the other shoe to drop. You will be full of the goodness of God, and completely satisfied in every way.
Choose a merry heart. Choose joy! Nobody else can do it for you. And nobody else can take it away.
Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him for the help of His countenance. – Ps. 42:5
Prayer:
Father, thank You for giving me a merry heart! I am in the midst of absolute craziness; but I am choosing joy, in Jesus’ name. I know that the joy You provide can never be taken away, in Jesus’ name.
