Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

And when the people of Ashdod arose early in the morning, there was Dagon, fallen on its face to the earth before the ark of the Lord. So they took Dagon and set it in its place again. And when they arose early the next morning, there was Dagon, fallen on its face to the ground before the ark of the Lord. – 1 Sam 5:3-4

Every false idol falls in the presence of God. Timothy Keller defines an idol as, “…anything more fundamental than God to your happiness, meaning in life or identity.”[1] Do you want to know if you have anything unwise in your life? Are you suspicious that certain relationships, activities, or people might be distracting you from your relationship with Jesus? Spend time in the presence of God, and invite Him to purge all impurity – and every waste of time – from your life.

Am I wasting time on anything? Am I focusing on anything I shouldn’t be? Are any of the plans I have for my future selfish? Expose every thought to the presence of God. The Holy things will stand; and the rest will fall.

Prayer:

Father, I invite You to expose every idol in my life. In Jesus’ name, cleanse my life from anything that is distracting me from worshipping You with all my heart!
