Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Jesus said to him, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.” – Jn 5:8

Jesus encountered a man lying by the Pool of Bethesda. He had been paralyzed thirty-eight years (v 5)! He wanted to be healed, but he told Jesus, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up” (v 7). So Jesus asked him to do the impossible: “Rise, take up your bed and walk” (v 8)!

The man made a decision. Today was his day! So he took Jesus at His word, “…took up his bed, and walked” (v 9). Jesus asked the man to do something that should have been impossible! And the man accepted, making a decision to believe that God could do it. Had he refused to “rise,” he would never have walked.

What areas are there in your life where you are refusing to, “Rise, take up your bed and walk?” Is God asking you to do something impossible? It may be impossible for you; but nothing is impossible for Him (Lk 1:37)! Step out and do that thing that should be impossible. Are you sick? Declare that you have been made well, by faith. Are you poor? Declare that you have been made rich, by faith. Rise up and walk! And watch God meet you at your point of faith.

Prayer:

Father, I am making the decision today to rise up and walk. I pray You would meet me in that decision. Show me what can happen when I take You at Your word, in Jesus’ name!
