Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
So when He came to Galilee, the Galileans received Him, having seen all the things He did in Jerusalem at the feast; for they also had gone to the feast. – Jn. 4:45

The Galileans received Jesus; not because they heard all the things He said, but because they saw, “…all the things He did.” People will know you’re a Christian not because of the things you say; but because of the things you do. That has two implications:

  1. Character counts. Do you love righteousness and hate sin? Do you live your life in such a way that someone who doesn’t know Jesus would look at you and say, “He’s different?” If you can’t tell the difference between your life and your non-Christian neighbor’s life, there’s a problem. Your life should be marked by confident faith and abundant compassion.
  2. Miracles matter. The Apostle Paul said, “…my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power…” (1 Cor. 2:4). What you say should lead to a demonstration of God’s glory and power. If your words are empty and powerless and nothing happens when you pray, there is a problem!

Be like Jesus! Ask God to make you a person of action. I pray that people would remember you, not for the things you said, but for what you did.

Prayer:

Father, make me a person of action. I want to live a life of holiness. I want to be a person who does what you tell me to do! And I want to be a person whose life is marked by the miracle-working power of Your Holy Spirit. Fill my life with action, in Jesus’ name!
