Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Where no oxen are, the trough is clean; but much increase comes by the strength of an ox. – Prov 14:4

Ministry is messy. The Gospel requires a willingness to get dirty. You can’t minister to the homeless unless you’re willing to meet them on the street. You’ll have a hard time delivering someone from a demon if you’re unwilling to be around people who are possessed.

Increase requires strength. But strength is messy, and I like my life to be nice and clean. Is it worth forsaking increase to avoid a mess? Have you ever told God you don’t want oxen because they’re too messy? Have you ever been reluctant to build because you know building leaves a mess? It can be so much easier to revel in what we have – a nice, clean life – even though God is calling us to get messy and build on what He has given us. So let’s invite the mess that serves as evidence of growth.

Real Kingdom work is messy. If your life is polished, neat and clean – without the tension of messiness – are you getting any Kingdom work done?

Father, I’m ready get messy! Whatever You want me to do: I’ll do it. I’ll walk into a mess if it means saving even one soul, in Jesus’ name!
