Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
So the people shouted when the priests blew the trumpets. And it happened when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat. Then the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city. – Josh 6:20
Obedience was worth it in the end. God gave His people instructions that might have been a little counter-intuitive. The Israelites must have felt silly walking around Jericho again and again and again – day after day – for seven days straight! But they didn’t feel silly when the walls of Jericho fell down flat! Because God’s people followed His instruction, they were victorious in the end.
God loves to bless people who aren’t afraid to look silly for Him. When God’s presence entered Jerusalem, David, “…danced before the Lord with all his might” (2 Sam 6:14). People scoffed! Even David’s own wife was embarrassed! But David didn’t care! He danced, because God told him to dance; and he and his people were blessed.
God gives victory on His terms. The strategy He gives you might be different from the strategy you would think up on your own. His plan might even seem outlandish and ridiculous! But it will work, because it is from God.
Prayer:
Father, help me to be obedient: even if I look silly, no matter the cost! I want victory on Your terms, and not my own.
