Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
But when you are invited, go and sit down in the lowest place, so that when he who invited you comes he may say to you, ‘Friend, go up higher.’ Then you will have glory in the presence of those who sit at the table with you. For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” – Lk 14:10-11
Promotion comes when we take our eyes off ourselves and think about others. Exaltation comes when we humble ourselves and let go of all thoughts of self. When you are willing to take the lowest place by offering to serve God in any way you can, God will elevate you in every way He can!
If you try and promote yourself, your progress will be thwarted; but if you let God lift you up, He will take you higher than you have ever been!
Prayer:
Father, I know promotion comes through service. Help me to get low – to forget about myself – so that You can take me higher, in Jesus’ name!
